Retail and Restaurant companies alike have business standards of operation that apply to company owned and/or franchised locations.  For restaurants, these often include food safety, operational and other standards. 

Many organizations spend millions of dollars annually to maintain an in-house staff to focus on these standards and the compliance of owners and managers of their stores.  Other companies assign these responsibilities to field operations staff whose focus should be on improving the company’s profitability.

Most Franchise Agreements contain language regarding operating standards for protecting brand equity. These can include food preparation consistency, pricing, hours of operation, facility conditions, compliance with required POP, unapproved product sales, key product out-of-stock conditions, etc.
